Finding an Appropriate Caterer for Your Event

Finding a caterer is not an easy job and calls for a well done homework before you begin your caterer search. Many aspects of the event need to be sorted before hiring or searching a catering service. To avoid any type of confusion it is better to understand your budget, venue, number of guests, menus, type of catering services required whether you want separate food catering services, desired number of waiting staff, the dress code of the wait staff (optional), presentation/ decoration and rental equipments.

Prepare a list of all these important things on a paper. May be you are good at remembering stuffs but it is always better to have a hard copy of list, to avoid forgetting.

Then begin the search for best catering service for your event. For better research of catering services try to search caterers in every possible field from internet to family and friends.

Internet is a big reservoir of various catering service companies whether it is full party catering or mere food catering, you can find a caterer from any part of the world by using a major search engine like Google, Yahoo or MSN, at your convenience. The search can further be filtered according to the requirement. Moreover, there are many websites on which you can post your event and invite bids from various best-suited professionals, like Bidgourmet.com.

You can also ask your near and dear ones for their suggestions. Your personal experience in some party can also be helpful to make a choice of the catering services company. You can contact your friends whose party’s catering services you liked and take their caterers’ contact number. If you have any special food caterer in your mind then you can also hire separate food catering services and party catering services for your event.

Many other things are also to be considered while finding an appropriate caterer for your event like catering service company’s license, permits, insurance coverage, experience and hidden costs if any. Before finalizing any catering service it is always better to ask for their recent past references and make sure to call these references to know about their services.

Kansas City Caterer – 3 Tips for Choosing the Right Caterer for Your Event

Finding a caterer is one the most stressful parts of planning an event. You’re already struggling to work out venues and schedules, and it’s no fun to add scouring the city for a capable Kansas City caterer to the list of things you have to do. How can you quickly determine whether a caterer is right for your event? I’ll give you three tips that will make it very simple.

The first is to make sure the caterer is licensed. This is the only way to guarantee that they will know and be able to follow the proper food safety guidelines for a large group of people. You wouldn’t want food poisoning to break out at your event, would you? Choosing an unlicensed caterer would be a good way to make that happen, so if you want to avoid making all your guests sick, just choose a licensed Kansas City caterer. Licensed caterers are invariably more experienced as well, so you win on every level.

The next thing to do is to make sure that they cater the specific meal you’re looking for. Many caterers only do dinners or luncheons or some specific meal of the day, and if you’re looking to have a different meal catered, they may not have the necessary experience to give you what you want. The best caterers have experience with catering all different meals, including breakfast, and should be able to cover you no matter when your event takes place.

Finally, you should make sure that the caterer will be able to work in the venue your event is being held in, or will provide a venue if you need one. Some caterers have a venue they can provide at the same time as the catering service, which is an advantage if you don’t already have a venue arranged for your event. Otherwise, you need to be sure to tell them where you know your event is taking place and make sure that they’ll be able to work in that environment. Some caterers may not be able to handle, say, an event on a boat, so you need to be very clear about this beforehand.

So, first you need to check that the caterer is licensed. Then you need to check that they can do the meal or meals you need catered. And then finally, you need to check that they can work the venue your event is being held in. If you do these three things, you’ll have the perfect caterer for your event.

7 Things to Consider Before Hiring a Wedding Caterer

7 Things to Consider Before Hiring a Wedding Caterer

Not all wedding caterers are alike. Here are some things you may want to consider before hiring your caterer.

Decide on your priorities. There are many brides and grooms who consider wedding food a necessity and are happy finding a caterer who can provide the most food for the lowest cost. Others may place the food and décor as a higher priority in their spending and decide that having tasty and unique food is something that will be a great memory instead of an afterthought.

Menu design does not involve picking food from columns. Many caterers have pre-set packages of dishes that are used over and over. It’s likely that a menu picked from the “A” package will also be utilized for many other weddings. It’s your special day; wouldn’t you enjoy a special menu? Your caterer should be well versed in menu design and be able to understand your crowd as well as your likes and dislikes.

Your caterer’s menus may be outdated. When you are checking out sample menus on the internet, take a look to find out when they were last updated (sometimes you can go to the bottom of the menu). If it has been four years since their wedding menus were updated, you may want to reconsider whether or not that caterer is at the forefront of current trends. You probably have updated your wardrobe in the past four or five years and you certainly are not using outdated wedding decorations, so why serve outdated food?

Your wedding food may have come straight from the food supplier’s freezer section. It’s true! Ever notice how many caterers in town have similar menus? It’s likely that many of the appetizer s like meatballs and crab cakes were bought pre-made and frozen. Sure, it can help the caterer save on labor costs, but keep in mind that sometimes fresh is best. Living in Florida, your guests deserve fresh seafood. Don’t settle for second best!

Make sure your caterer is licensed and insured. It is likely that your caterer possesses the proper licensing with the state of Florida as well as general liability insurance, but it is ok to ask. Most venues that host weddings will require proof from the caterer, so you won’t have to worry about dealing with the details. However, if your caterer will be providing bartenders to serve your liquor at an approved venue, make sure your caterer has liquor liability insurance, or you could be stuck buying it yourself to cover your one day wedding.

You may get the “B” team from your caterer. Find out how many events will be catered during the time of your reception. If it is more than one, does your caterer have the adequate staff and expertise to provide the same exact same service to all of their events? Or will you be stuck with the second best team.

It’s not just about the food. Though caterers tend to be most focused on the food aspect, there is so much more that goes into executing a great wedding reception. Some of the greatest chefs can wow our taste buds, but would be unable to serve that same food to a group of 200 guests; it’s all about logistics and planning. How about the service staff? Ask to see photos of past events that include the service staff. The guests at your wedding deserve a clean, congenial server. And is your caterer up to date with the latest trends in catering? If they’re not constantly working to make themselves better, do they deserve your business?

Phoenix Catering – How to Choose a Caterer in Phoenix, Arizona

At this time of year, our busy lives are filled with holiday events, family gatherings, shopping, and decorating. Sometimes we get so overwhelmed by all the “busy-ness” of the season that we become stressed out by the thought of preparing all that food for our Christmas party or get-together. So why not make entertaining easy and call a caterer to handle the hard job of feeding the masses?

Have you been to a party lately and loved the food? Did you ask the host where the food came from? Maybe you were so impressed you even asked for the caterer’s name and number. Often the next step is to go online and check out the caterer’s website. Most of the time you can find a listing of the various types of menus they offer for different types of events. Usually you can find meal prices too, which you can use to calculate the costs of holding your party or event. Now you must remember that not all caterers are alike and that they have their own unique recipes. Choosing a caterer based merely on price can lead to disaster. You want to impress your guests with a scrumptious meal, not bland unmemorable food. That’s why word of mouth can be so important when choosing a caterer. Trust your own taste buds and those of your friends! Recommendations count!

If you’re researching several different caterers online and requesting bids, be sure you’re matching “apples to apples” for an accurate price quote. You want all the elements to be equal and balanced when it comes to making a final decision to select your caterer. Prices alone can be misleading and could cause you to neglect ordering an essential food item for your party.

Caterers spends lots of time putting together bids and proposals for potential clients, so, as a courtesy, it’s good to let the other catering contenders know that you’ve decided to go with someone else. It’s the polite thing to do and is always a good way of doing business.

A new trend in catering is the move toward going “green.” This involves using locally-grown vegetables and/or organic vegetables. If this concept is important to you, ask the caterer where they get their food. For instance, the Phoenix caterer, JUST GREAT FOOD, uses organic hydroponic herbs and organic vegetables, whenever possible, in preparing their signature dishes.

In fact, if you are an organic proponent and haven’t heard of hydroponics, it’s time to get on board. Hydroponics is the art of growing fruits and vegetables in water, hence “hydo” meaning water and “ponics” meaning works. It’s estimated that by 2018 at least 20% of the produce you buy will be grown via hydroponics. It’s an ancient way of growing and nurturing vegetables to become healthy, delicious morsels packed chockfull of nutrients and flavor. Hydroponics uses less water, grows a third faster, and reduces the risk of food-borne illness to practically zero.

You know how you see in the news all the recalls on produce these days? Well that doesn’t happen in hydroponics because the plants are grown in a completely-controlled environment, using healthy nutrients and clean water.

So if your holidays are jam-packed and the stress of cooking a large meal or entertaining the office staff is weighing you down, call your local caterer and let them take the load off so you can fully enjoy the holiday season.

Booking your Wedding Caterer over the Internet

If you are booking a caterer for an upcoming function, you have probably spent some time looking at catering websites. Websites are great at providing information for the user, including menus and photos showing the style and quality of their work.

Once you have found a caterer and website that looks good, make sure you contact them to confirm if your particular date is available. If so and you are happy, it is a great idea to go back to the website and read their information again. This will save you asking basic questions when the answers have already been provided.

While this may be your first time booking with a caterer, and may be a little unsure of the process don’t worry. It can be easy to forget that caterers are professionals, and you really should not have to worry about the little details.

Make sure to ask questions that will ultimately decide if you would like to book a particular catering business. Don’t get too caught up in the little questions, especially during your initial searches. It is amazing how many people send bulk enquiries, and then forget who they actually contacted. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to respond to an enquiry, to be asked ‘What do you offer again?’

If you are booking a caterer specifically to work to set plans, it is important to view menus and pricing to ensure they offer packages to suit. While some catering companies provide full wedding setup and catering packages, most will specialise in catering only.

Once you have found a caterer that you feel comfortable working with, do ask them for referrals on glass hire etc, as they may be able to reduce the amount of research required to find specific items.

Work with your caterer, and they will go out of their way to ensure you are great service throughout your planning stages right through to your wedding.

        Selecting a Caterer

Ideas to help you choose the perfect caterer for your function

Selecting a caterer can be overwhelming and confusing at times, especially if you are not sure what type of catering will suit your function. Here are a few ideas to help you decide on a menu, and then caterer to suit.

Selecting a date, location and approximate guest numbers are the best place to start when planning a function. This will give you an idea of the space and facilities available, and any restrictions on guest numbers.

Date: Choose a date that will suit you and your family and friends. Caterers may be booked out on certain dates, so make a few enquiries to see who is available. Saturdays seem to be the most popular for functions, especially when most people work during the week. Fridays are quite popular also, and do tend to be more available and at times cheaper when hiring venues. Sundays are great for BBQ’s and relaxed events. Long weekends are very popular, and it does help to plan ahead.

Location: Hired venue or private location. This will depend on the space available to you. Hired venues are great for larger functions that require more space for guests. Hired venues may have an onsite caterer that provides all catering needs. Halls and venues can be great as they provide space, cover and parking for guests. You may be required or want to use the services of a mobile caterer. Mobile caterers can be quite flexible with space and facilities available, and can sometimes be a cost effective and delicious option! If you are planning to have your venue at home or private residence, this may save you time and money, and gives you some flexibility with catering options.

Approximate Guest Numbers: Making a list of who you would like to invite will help determine an approximate number of guests. It is very common that 10-15% of people invited will be unable to attend due to date clashes or travel involved. If guest numbers are quite high, it may help to get a few quotes to determine if your budget will suit.

Plated meals, buffets and Talk & Fork options are great catering options. Plated meals can be best suited to more formal functions that have a larger budget and space. Buffets are great for all occasions and can be casual or formal. Buffets are increasingly popular at weddings as they provide great value and choice for guests. Talk & Fork menus are perfect for functions with limited seating.

With basic details including a time frame on dates, possible location and approximate number of guests, it will help you to get accurate quotes from caterers and suppliers. If you are unsure about which menu may best suit, ask your caterer for menu ideas and their speciality.
