Choosing the right food for your event

It is a good idea to have a food tasting before you choose the menu for your event. Here are some tips to keep in mind;

  1. Tastings not only allow you to try the food before your event but also provide you with the opportunity to spend time with your caterer. Use this opportunity to share your likes and dislikes as well as discussing other aspects of your wedding. The better your caterer gets to know you the better the service they will be able to provide you with. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. This is your time with your caterer.
  2. Food presentation and service is often as important as the taste of the food itself. Take note of how the food is presented on the plate and ask questions. Is the dressing included on the salad or will it be served on the side? What will be the order and timing of the food service? How often will the buffet be refreshed? These are all important questions to ask.
  3. Tastings are not only an opportunity for you but are also an opportunity for the catering company to receive feedback from their clients. Be sure to provide your honest opinion on the taste and presentation of the food as well as any concerns.
  4. Some caterers charge for tastings. If this is the case with your caterer make sure you understand the fees before you book a tasting so that you won’t be shocked later.
  5. While the taste and presentation of the food is an extremely important factor, it is also important to ensure that you are happy with the other services the catering company provides. Chemistry between you and the caterer is also important as you will be working together so it is important that you get along.
  6. If you decide that you do not want to go with a particular catering company you can send a short note or email thanking them for their time and offering honest feedback. The caterer should appreciate your input.
